When You’re a Kid, Family Time is Important
A lot of modern kid-family guides place a lot of emphasis on how children play at school with their classmates, and how they play in playgroups. A lot of these handbooks seem to take for granted that we might already have a good enough play area at home – one that is suitable for every stage in the development of your kid. Family playing space is one of the most important elements of your home.
Playing at home does a lot more than teach positive concepts to a kid. Family involvement should always be a part of the activities, and this makes the child feel welcome in their own family group. Since this is the basic social unit for any kid, family involvement at an early age is vitally important. We noticed that when our son, Jake, plays at home, he plays differently to how he would play at school or with another kid.
Family space is different to school or social spaces, and children feel more comfortable in their home environment. If you make this place a comfortable, fun and educational place to play, you will start to see improved social interaction in your kid. Family play might take a lot out of you as a parent, but it will give your child the confidence necessary to interact with other children at their play group or school.
Of course, at home it is necessary for you to provide toys for your kid. Family oriented toys are readily available, but children also need to learn how to keep themselves entertained, and use their imagination rather than simply join in the game of another kid. Family stores are a good place to find educational toys that will really help your child’s development.
Try to stay away from the major chain stores, unless they have a specific section for educational toys. Video games and non-educational board games are usually a bad idea, although they should not be excluded purely for the enjoyment that can be had from them. Whenever you play with your kid, family involvement is something you should always encourage.
Choose play venues and toys to be appropriate to playing as a family, and try to make sure that all members of the family are present at least once or twice a week with your child, as this will promote a sense of a complete family, which might never be formed if one kid/family member is often absent. You will find useful information of how to have a toy game hobby night at your house here!
