Should Our Children Play Kids Games Online?

Kids games online – The importance of play in children’s development

As someone who has worked with children at a kindergarten level, I have seen firsthand how important children’s’ games can be in the development of kids.educational-games-online.JPG

Children’s games are always encouraged at crèches and kindergartens, and not just because they keep the kids occupied.

Whenever the subject of how much children play computer games is brought up, educators tend to frown and mutter. However, kids games online are a part of our life and our culture, whether we like it or not.

We can either ignore it and forbid our children to play computer games, or we can roll with it and try to find computer games that are both fun and educational. The so-called “bad” computer games obviously offer no educational benefit. Games like “Doom” have received a lot of bad publicity, but there is no scientific evidence to suggest that our children will grow up to be mindless killers if they play kids games online like these.

Children are a lot smarter than we give them credit for! These games provide recreational activities, which are important, but they should not be preferred over sports and outdoor activities.

One great place to play kids games online that is child-safe and highly educational is nobelprize.org. Here you can learn about the latest Nobel Prize laureates and their achievements, as well as play kids games online which teach children about the various aspects of the prize-winners’ work.

Kidsgames.org also offers a wide range of kids games online that are suitable for children up to age 10.

We originally did not want to allow our son, Jake, to play kids games online; as we saw that, it often stopped other children from going outside. However, once we found a wide range of educational kids’ games online, we are more than happy to allow Jake to play kids games online with no educational value from time to time – provided that he goes outside when his friends are playing! As long as he spends some of that time on the computer learning, we’re happy to let him play kids games online.

When children play kids games online they automatically come to feel that they are in a “fun” environment, and so will respond to any educational stimuli that they are presented with. Responses to online and digital educational games have consistently been better than those games which are not played on computer.

This might be why so many schools are now encouraging children to play kids games online, provided that they are educational and stimulating.
